Who We Are


JG Consulting Group works with both businesses and consumers alike. We currently provide over 20 program and services to assist start up businesses to existing businesses with the intent of increasing their bottom line. These programs and services include various types of payment solutions, cash advances and Point of Sales equipment along with other many types of equipment.

Why We Do What We Do

The President of JG Consulting Group, Inc., James Goodpaster, started his merchant services career in October of 1992 with an innovative startup company in Central California by the name of U.S. Merchant Systems (USMS). Since that time he has been instrumental in helping thousands of business owners take advantage of various products and services that are available out in the market place.

In 2001, Mr. Goodpaster decided to relocate back to Central Indiana where he was born and raised. He has continued to work in the merchant services industry with the belief that he could offer many different types of products and services to established businesses and brand new businesses alike.

During an interview Mr. Goodpaster was asked why he chose the merchant services industry in 1992 and here is his response:

Mr. Goodpaster Writes:
"In 1990, before USMS, a partner and I owned a home-based business. We tried, unsuccessfully I might add, to sign up for a merchant account. The business was barely breaking even on a good month and it was very frustrating because we knew we would be able to actually make a nice profit by accepting credit cards. Most customers asked if we accepted credit cards, some even submitted their credit card information with their orders. Since we weren't set up to accept credit cards we had to fax their orders back and ask (beg) for a check.

We had started the process of establishing a line of credit so my partner and I were on great terms with our banker. When we went into the bank and said we would like to set up a merchant account, we were informed that we had a snowball's chance in .... of being approved due to the fact that we did not have a store-front business because we worked out of our homes. Some of you reading this will understand the disappointment that we felt. We had everything, good credit, a great product, great customer satisfaction, the whole nine yards but no merchant account. We decided to check around with other banks, same story. One bank said we had to be in business for at least 2 years before they would submit the application and then we would have a 10 percent chance of being approved. We knew that our percentage of market penetration would never be what we wanted without the ability to accept credit cards. Regrettably, all those late nights, hundreds of hours of work went down the drain as we had no other choice but to close down the business.

I left the US Air Force in 1992 as I wanted to be able to create more of an income and have some control over my life. I thoroughly enjoyed my ten years in the service and had the privilege of living all over the world but I felt it was time for a change. I was contacted by a friend of mine to interview with a start-up merchant service provider in Newark, CA. To make a long story short, I interviewed with the Regional Manager and accepted the position as an Independent Sales Representative for US Merchant Systems, Inc. (USMS) providing merchant services for all different types of businesses of which included home-based.

Some of you may ask what a Simulator technician knows about sales. I had made it a mission to find an opportunity to ease the pain and to help fellow entrepreneurs like myself. Five minutes into the interview I immediately knew I found what I had been searching for - an opportunity to help my fellow entrepreneurs and make a decent living doing it. I would be able to help small businesses get approved for a merchant account to except all major credit cards along with other merchant services. The rates and fees were reasonable and the equipment options were perfect for home-based businesses."

Today, JG Consulting Group works with various bankcard processors providing merchant services not only in the US but abroad as well as providing over 20 peripheral programs and services.
