About Us

The President of JG Consulting Group, Inc., James Goodpaster, started his merchant services career in October of 1992 with an innovative start up company in Central California by the name of U.S. Merchant Systems (USMS).  Since that time he has been instrumental in helping thousands of business owners take advantage of various products and services that are available out in the market place.

In 2001, Mr. Goodpaster decided to relocate back to Central Indiana where he born and raised.  He has continued to work in the merchant services industry with the belief that he could offer many different types of products and services to established businesses and brand new businesses alike.

Mr. Goodpaster writes:

"We at JG Consulting Group are always looking for new ways to be involved in "Opening the Doors to New Technologies."  This is not just our motto but what we believe is the key to the future of all business owners."

JG Consulting Group, Inc. started out by continuing their relationship in the merchant services industry with U.S. Merchant Systems.  USMS opened its doors in June of 1992 and like many of you, USMS started as a home-based business in the living room of one of it's three founders.  Today USMS has become one of the premier merchant service providers in the industry today.

Mr. Goodpaster writes:

"It was with mixed emotions that I made the decision to move back to my roots in Indiana in April of 2001.  I opened up my business with the intent of marketing all types of services to business owners.  Of course, the first services that I opted for was merchant services.  That is why you will see that JG Consulting Group, Inc. is a registered agent of U.S. Merchant Systems.  I very much wanted to continue my long lasting relationship with this fine company.  Mr. Stuart Rosenbaum, Chairman and co-founder of U.S. Merchant Systems, was my mentor.  I learned a lot from Stuart in the years since then.  I am very proud of the success of U.S. Merchant Systems and it is the result of the hardwork and many long hours put in by him and his management crew of which I was one.  I have never worked side by side with a more dedicated group of individuals."

Mr. Goodpaster wrote an Introductory Letter directed to the clients of an Alliance Partner while part of the executive team at USMS in July of 2000.  As you read the following excerpts below, it addresses the reasons why Mr. Goodpaster became "interested" in the merchant services industry and you will understand the affinity that he has for the small business owner.

Mr. Goodpaster writes:

"In 1990, before USMS, a partner and I owned a home-based business.  We tried, unsuccessfully I might add, to sign up for a merchant account.  The business was barely breaking even on a good month and it was very frustrating because we knew we would be able to actually make a nice profit by accepting credit cards.  Most customers asked if we accepted credit cards, some even submitted their credit card information with their orders.  Since we weren't set up to accept credit cards we had to fax their orders back and ask (beg) for a check.

We had started the process of establishing a line of credit so my partner and I were on great terms with our banker.  When we went into the bank and said we would like to set up a merchant account, we were informed that we had a snowball's chance in .... of being approved due to the fact that we did not have a store-front business.  Like most of you, we worked out of our homes.  Some of you reading this will understand the disappointment that we felt.  We had everything, good credit, a great product, great customer satisfaction, the whole nine yards but no merchant account.  We decided to check around with other banks, same story.  One bank said we had to be in business for at least 2 years before they would submit the application and then we would have a 10 percent chance of being approved.  We knew that our percentage of market penetration would never be what we wanted without the ability to accept credit cards.  Regretably, all those late nights, hundreds of hours of work went down the drain as we had no other choice but to close down the business.

I left the US Air Force in 1992 as I wanted to be able to create more of an income and have some control over my life.  I thoroughly enjoyed my ten years in the service and had the privilege of living all over the world but I felt it was time for a change.  I was contacted by a friend of mine to interview with a start-up merchant service provider in Newark, CA.  To make a long story short, I interviewed with the Regional Manager and accepted the position as an Independent Sales Representative for US Merchant Systems, Inc. (USMS) providing merchant services for all different types of businesses of which included home-based.

Some of you may ask what a Simulator Technician knows about sales.  I had made it a mission to find an opportunity to ease the pain and to help fellow entrepreneurs like myself.  Five minutes into the interview I immediately knew I found what I had been searching for - an opportunity to help my fellow entrepreneurs and make a decent living doing it.  I would be able to help small businesses get approved for a merchant account to except all major credit cards along with other merchant services.  The rates and fees were reasonable and the equipment options were perfect for home-based businesses."

Mr. Goodpaster further writes:

"In closing let me ask you just one question.  What could it possibly hurt to accept credit cards and utilize other merchant services?

Let's look at what could happen…

1.  You may get more business than you can handle.

2.  You gain much more credibility and improve your image in the market place.

3.  You actually have more money than month instead of more month than money.

Okay, here's the downside...

1.  You may get more business than you can handle.

2.  You may need to hire employees to keep up with the increase in sales.

3.  You'll pay more taxes!  This is one of those "nice problems to have".

You decide ... I think you can see that taking advantage of merchant services is really the best thing for your business.  In your particular industry you don't have a viable business unless you offer merchant services to your potential clients.

And, until now, you had the worry about getting approved.  Well, now you don't!  We approve over 98 percent and in today's world, that is huge!

Thank you for taking the time to read this introductory letter and the opportunity to earn your business."

JG Consulting Group, Inc. offers many products and services that will help new and existing businesses alike as we begin our journey forward in time together and begin "Opening the Doors to New Technologies.".
