Time
For a Business Checkup
In December’s newsletter I addressed
reviewing your goals for 2009.
I recommended that you gather 2009’s financial data and meet with your
executive staff so that you can both go over those goals and, in hindsight, review
the success / failure of the planning process involved with those goals.
I also discussed setting new goals and plans for
the upcoming year. It is now February
and it’s time to perform a business check up.
Ideally, you have been scheduling routine meetings
and reviewing statistics to find out if the plans are working and so on.

Prevention
Is The Key
As many of you know I was in the United States
Air Force for 10 years. During that time
I learned that preventative maintenance was the key to keeping equipment and
personnel working at their peak.
The same is true in business. As you go through your day become very
diligent in the observation of your surroundings. This doesn’t just apply directly to financial
matters. An unhappy customer or employee
can indirectly affect your financial health.
There is truth and wisdom to the old saying, “An
ounce of
prevention is worth a pound of cure".

Diagnosis
After
completing your review it is time for a diagnosis. Hopefully, your conclusion is that your plans
are working and statistics are soaring.
Regardless of how well we plan, there are going
to be situations that arise that have to be addressed. Remember, it is not the circumstance that happens
but
how we handle it that
counts.
Review all that
statistics and make changes as needed.
